Massive Cuts to Public Safety Puts Public At Risk (Press Release 07/09/2009)

THE FACTS:

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department currently patrols 844 SQUARE MILES and serves over HALF A MILLION CITIZENS.

This fiscal year the department has absorbed nearly $57 MILLION of the County of Sacramento’s $180 MILLION budget deficit. The Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs' Association saved the County and Department approximately $10.5M in this fiscal year to offset the Department's deficit.

The Department's deficit has caused the department to cut 210 FULL TIME DEPUTIES AND OVER 400 ON CALL DEPUTIES come August 1, 2009.

To help ease the deficit, DEPUTIES VOTED TO GIVE UP THE RAISES they were contracted to receive for the next two years.

BECAUSE OF THE LOOMING STAFFING SHORTAGE:

Proactive Law Enforcement activities will CEASE TO EXIST and only REACTIVE.

THE 38 CARS CURRENTLY PATROLLING WILL BE REDUCED TO 10 CARS, PRE 1970 PATROL STAFFING LEVELS (SACBEE.COM).

Service Centers, Air Operations, and Problem Oriented Policing (POP) will cease to exist.

If your business or your home has been burglarized, robbed, embezzled or stolen from, DO NOT EXPECT A RESPONSE.

CRIMINALS ARE SAYING THIS:

“There’s going to be hella crime. There’s going to be a lot of crime. There’s a lot less eyes looking at crime.” -Recently released inmate, Alfredo Gaeta (KCRA3.COM).
