At approximately 1:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon (August 6, 2009), we lost a friend, co-worker and one of Sacramento’s finest, Sergeant Kelley Lara. While en route to work, Sgt. Lara was involved in a vehicle accident in which she did not survive. Lara was a 15 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department. The loss of Sergeant Kelley Lara will not only affect her partners, fellow brothers and sisters in law enforcement, but the community in which she served.

Sergeant Lara is survived by her husband, Sergeant Donald Lara of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, and four young children including triplets. The Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association and its STAR 6 Foundation have set up a Memorial Fund in Sergeant Lara’s name through Exchange Bank.
